On behalf of the U.S. Embassy in Seoul, I would like to extend my best wishes to all of the more than 100 athletes from seven universities around the world competing in the 2019 DGIST World-Class University Rowing Festival.
I am especially proud that the United States is represented by the student-athltes from MIT. I’d also like to thank and congratulate the organizers of this tournament, including DGIST President Dr. Young Kuk and all of the volunteers, for hosting this event for the fifth year. Successfully hosting an international rowing tournament featuring teams from five countries from across the globe is an accomplishment in and of itself.
The four core values of this festival-creativity, challenge, collabration and care-can be found not only in the challenging sport of rowing, but also in the seven world-class science and technological universities represented here. Success in both endeavors- athletics and academics-requires perseverance, ability, dedication, and teamwork.
I am certain that the visiting teams will have a memorable stay in Korea and encourage them to take full advantage of the outstanding hospitality that the City of Daegu and DGIST have to offer. Good luck in your competition and I hope that your experiences here will create memories that last a lifetime.
